Football Tailgate Games rule regulations and suggestions

Football Tailgate Games

1) Set Chairs For Game Mode

2) MakeThe Chairs approximately 40 feet apart, or adjust according to skill level

3) The game can be played one vs one or 2 vs. 2, 4 vs 4, or whatever you want

So one vs. one – players are playing from opposite sides

And 2 vs. 2 – teammates are on opposite sides

4) All the players Alternate Throws.

5) If a player Hits the Chair on a Fly – Player/Team gets 3 points

6) If a Player throws the ball into the basket (touchdown) – The Player/Team gets 6 points

7) If a Player Scores a touchdown, then you get to kick for the extra point. Earn an Extra Point by kicking through goalposts.  Then you win the game if your kick goes into the hole/basket.

8) Now If the ball bounces on the ground from any throw and it lands in the basket, the offensive team gets 2 points.

9) The defending team can earn 3 points if they catch a rebound from the chair, bouncing off before it hits the ground.  The defending team now must allow the ball to hit the chair first.

10) For a twist, you can switch sides when the leading team reaches 12 pts, 24 pts, 36 pts, 48 pts

11) Ok, so the first team to reach 54 wins! (Gotta win by 2).  The losing team gets the last licks, one throw.

Pro Rules:

Ok, so this is where it gets interesting! And fun! Pro rules are whatever you want to make it and make up our own Rules!! have fun and share, don’t be afraid to elaborate on the amazing experience.

Pick-6 Rule:

When you Intercept a thrown ball that hits any part of the chair (including goal posts) before it hits the ground: you have 2 options.

Option #1: Take a knee immediately after you complete the interception for 3 points.

Option #2: After the interception is made, you cab run to the opposite goal until you are touched with 2 hands by the opponent. So now at the spot of contact, you can attempt your touchdown throw for 6 points and an extra point try.  if you miss the touchdown throw you get no points (No points for the original interception). OMG I Love This Game!!!

Note: Just to be clear. The interception rule is always in play for the other team during any TD throw.

The Muffed Extra Point Attempt Rule:

When you Catch a missed extra point with one hand only! You’re a superstar! And there are 2 options

Option #1: You need to catch the missed extra point with one hand for one point. Make it count!

Option #2: So when you catch a missed extra point attempt with one hand and then run towards your opponent’s goal the opponent must make contact with 2 hands.  Now at the point of contact, the player can attempt a touchdown throw.  If the player misses the Touchdown you get no points and the ball goes to another team. Agin! this is so much fun!!!

Note: Remember that the Interception rule is always in play for the other team. Always

Hail Mary:

Ok, guys, this is soooo Cool!! If a Team is losing at 54 or greater you have a one time chance for redemption. Cool right?

  • Now what you do is subtract the winning score by the losing score to determine the paces you will need to take. (Example: 54-34 = 20) (20 paces away from your goal).
  • Lets clear this up. So, with back against your goal take the 20 paces away from goal, your getting further away, and turn around to face your opponent’s goal.
  • Take good aim and make your shot. If any part of the chair or goal post is hit on the fly from the Hail Mary pass, the game is tied up. What, What?!!
  • Now if you make it in the basket and a touchdown is thrown from the Hail Mary pass you win. The down side is that a total miss will result in a loss. Thats right, all or nothing!! Ha, ha

Laterals:

Who doesn’t love the pick 6? Any Pick-6 or Muffed Extra Point Attempts, laterals can be used to reach or get closer to the opponent’s goal.  And as usual any lateral is a sideways or backward direction toss. Don’t cheat

Blocking:

Blocking is always allowed during an Interception and/or Muffed Extra point returns, this will enable the offense to get closer to the opponent’s goal. ugh

Ok so here is the COOL thing… You can make up your own rules as you play and enjoy this amazing game. Ya have fun with this and explore the different nuances of a great tailgating, backyard experience game!
